Aurora, IL –August 6, 2006 – Scoutware, the collegiate athletic industry leader in recruiting communications, recently attended the Collegiate Business Conference, held August 4-5 at the Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, California.
Scoutware, in its second year of attendance, was invited to speak as part of the two-day event. Eric Konkol, a Director of Client Services spoke alongside UCLA men’s basketball assistant coach, Kerry Keating. Together, the two spoke about technology and its impact in recruiting. The UCLA men’s basketball program, Pac-10 Champions and an NCAA Final Four team in 2006, have been using Scoutware since 2003. According to Keating, “Seventy-five percent of the kids we have signed in the last three years were recruited primarily by e-mail.”
Konkol is a former men’s basketball coach at Tulsa, Tennessee, and more recently George Mason for three years, where he used Scoutware to recruit many of the players who helped lead the Patriots on a remarkable season that ended at the Final Four in 2006.
“This was our second year at the CBC and I was impressed by the collection of those in attendance. It remains one of the best networking and learning experiences for college basketball coaches. This year was especially memorable in that I had the opportunity to present along with Kerry, [Keating] someone I have known and respected for years,” commented Konkol.
Other notable speakers were head coaches George Karl of the Denver Nuggets, Tom Crean of Marquette University, Dave Odom of the University of South Carolina, John Calipari of the University of Memphis, and Lawrence Frank of the New Jersey Nets. Attendees also received a surprise appearance by Magic Johnson, who delivered the conference’s opening remarks.
